Celebrating 50 Podcast Episodes: My Top Lessons Learned

Hey, friends! Welcome back to the Be You Brand Podcast. I’m Ati Grinspun, your host, and today I am so excited because we’re celebrating a major milestone—50 episodes! 🎉 I can’t believe we’ve reached this point, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the biggest Podcasting Lessons Learned I’ve learned along the way.

Whether you’ve been with me from the beginning or just tuned in, this episode is packed with tips, insights, and personal reflections that I hope will inspire you—whether you’re considering starting a podcast to grow your personal brand.

Podcasting Lesson Learned #1: Podcasting is a Long-Term Game

Here’s the truth: podcasting isn’t a quick fix. It’s a long-term strategy, my friend. I’ve seen people rush into podcasting thinking it’s going to blow up their business right away, but one of the biggest podcasting lessons learned is that podcasting takes time. It’s not just about recording an episode; it’s about building trust with your audience.

From the tech side to repurposing content, there are so many little nuances to podcasting that people don’t realize. But the key to making it work? Consistency. Keep showing up for your audience, and over time, you’ll see the results.

Podcasting Lesson Learned #2: Don’t Start a Podcast Just for Marketing

Let’s get real—starting a podcast just for marketing or to get more clients isn’t the best strategy if you’re still trying to get your business off the ground. A podcast is a long-term commitment, and while it’s an amazing tool to nurture your audience and build thought leadership, it’s not a quick win for bringing in clients right away.

I’ve had clients who thought launching a podcast would instantly blow up their business, but it takes time for people to find you, and even more time for them to convert into clients. So if you’re not yet profitable or still in the early stages of building your business, I’d recommend focusing on other strategies first. A podcast is amazing for brand building, but it’s not always the fastest way to get clients.

Podcasting Lesson Learned #3: Editing Matters, and Sometimes You Have to Take Control

Here’s a personal story—I started my podcast with an editor, and it was great. But somewhere along the way, I started feeling disconnected from my own episodes. When I listened back, the way they were being edited didn’t quite fit my vision for the show. So, I decided to take back the editing myself.

Now, I’m not saying everyone has to edit their own podcast, but I’ve learned that getting involved in the process helps me stay connected to the content. It may take more time, but I now feel every episode truly reflects my voice. For beginners, I’d say: try editing yourself for a while. It will help you learn more about what you want your podcast to sound like.

Podcasting Lesson Learned #4: Don’t Get Hung Up on Equipment

When I started, I bought a Yeti microphone, a Logitech camera, and all the fancy gear. But here’s the unpopular opinion: the equipment doesn’t matter as much as you think. Some of my best episodes were recorded with nothing more than my Apple AirPods!

As long as your audio is clear and listenable, you’re good to go. Don’t let the fear of not having the “right” equipment hold you back from starting. Focus on content and preparation—that’s what makes a podcast great.

Podcasting Lesson Learned #5: Be Selective with Guests—It’s About Values, Not Just Big Names

One of the things I’ve learned is that not everyone who wants to be on your show is doing it for the right reasons. Once you have a platform, people will start pitching themselves left and right. But I’ve become really intentional about who I bring on.

Your guests are a reflection of your brand, so make sure they’re aligned with your values. When someone is on my podcast, it’s because I believe in them, their work, and what they stand for. I’ve had people who might think differently from me, but at the core, we share the same values.

Just because someone has a big name doesn’t mean they’re the right fit. Make sure they’re going to bring real value to your audience.

Podcasting Lesson Learned #6: Podcasting is an Amazing Relationship Builder

Podcasting has given me the chance to form deep connections—not just with my guests, but with my audience too. People have reached out to me to say how much the podcast has impacted them, and honestly, there’s no better feeling than knowing your work is making a difference.

I’ve had people tell me they listen to my podcast every morning on their way to work, or that it’s helped them through tough times. Those messages mean the world to me, and they remind me why I do this. Podcasting builds trust like nothing else because it’s so personal. Your audience gets to know you, hear your thoughts, and connect with you in a real way.

If you’re starting a podcast, remember that it’s not just about broadcasting your message—it’s about building relationships.
